If you smell gas
Leave the building first. Then call — from somewhere else, not from inside. Our emergency line is answered around the clock, every day of the year.

Six steps, in order
Propane itself is odorless, so an odorant is added that smells like rotten eggs or a skunk. If you notice that smell, work through these in sequence.
- 01
No flame or sparks
Immediately put out smoking materials and other open flames. Do not operate lights, appliances, telephones, or cell phones.
- 02
Leave immediately
Get everyone out of the building, RV, or area where you suspect gas is leaking.
- 03
Shut off the gas
Turn off the main supply valve on your propane tank if it is safe to do so. To close the valve, turn to the right — clockwise.
- 04
Report the leak
From a neighbor's house or another building away from the suspected leak, call your local Franger Gas office right away. If you cannot reach us, call 911 or your local fire department.
- 05
Keep your distance
Stay a safe distance away until one of our qualified service technicians or an emergency responder determines that it is safe.
- 06
Get the system inspected
Before you use any propane appliance again, a qualified Franger Gas technician must check the entire system for leaks.
Every number, one place
